The Wynyard RCMP, with the help of a search team, were able to find a missing 11-year-old girl.
Yesterday afternoon (Thurs) Wynyard RCMP say the mother returned to her home in Bankend and discoverd footprints leaving the residence, then called police after following those tracks and checking with neighbours.
They believed the girl left on her own between 3 and 5 o’clock in the afternoon.
A search team consisting of RCMP from Wynyard, Punnichy, and Wadena, Coservation Officers, among others, was then mobilized.
Two hours into the search, with darkness, falling temperatures and snowfall presenting challenges, a volunteer located a set of footprints and followed them towards a frozen slough where they located the girl.
She was found collapsed face down in the snow, but still alive, and was taken to hospital in Wynyard for hypothermia and injuries related to exposure.
The 11-year-old was located about 4 miles west of Bankend.
The RCMP thanked all the volunteers and first responders in the area for the quick response.
